Temporomandibular Joint Injuries (TMJ)
These are injuries to the tendons, ligaments and/or disc in your jaw.
They can be painful, debilitating and require extensive care and
treatment. Studies have established that the TMJ can be injured in
falls or automobile accidents. A direct blow to the head or jaw often
causes this injury but is not required. For example, injury to the TMJ
can occur from the hyper-extension/hyper-flexion forces experienced by
a person in a rear end automobile collision.
